Wendy Macias-Konstantopoulos, MD, MPH, Staff Physician / Director of the Human Trafficking Initiative at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Department of Emergency Medicine, Boston, MA, presented the Thomas A. Leonard Memorial Lecture on "Human Trafficking and Pregnancy: Improving Health Care Response Where Vulnerabilities Collide."

Dr. Macias-Konstantopoulos provided an overview of human trafficking, including factors that increase one's vulnerability to trafficking, reviewed five health outcomes associated with human trafficking, and described signs/indicators of trafficking, including special considerations in pregnancy, and discussed components of an appropriate response to potentially trafficked persons. Attendees departed with a clearer picture of the profound impact human trafficking has on women's health and the long-lasting implications exposure to abuse and violence has in the lives of women and children affected by human trafficking.
